Massive Attack & Stage Design

I had the fortune to catch Massive Attack perform at the Gibson Ampitheater in Los Angeles last night. I’ve seen them once before, at Coachella 2006, but last night was an entirely different experience due to the incredible light show.

The light projections are mostly patterns and words, phrases or bits of information pertaining to current events, issues and world problems. Skimming through tour photos, it looks like that the information is modified to the country the band is performing in. Our show in Los Angeles last night had many references to the current Tea Party politicians in office or who ran for office, for example.

I need more research, but I believe United Visual Artists is responsible for the Massive Attack tour stage design and lighting design. Their first noted project with the band began in 2004, then 2006 and 2008. I assume they organized the 2009-2010 Heglioland tour as well.
